Dare to Dream: Helping WA youth with disability step into work

Our incredible scholars are already over halfway through the program, and the energy is infectious.

The Dare to Dream program is giving young Western Australians with disability the confidence, skills, and encouragement they need as they prepare for life beyond school.

Launched in 2026 the Dare to Dream Scholarship Program, made possible through the generous support of Stan Perron Charitable Foundation, is empowering Year 11 and 12 students with disability to build real world‑ capabilities and a clear sense of direction for their future.

The need is significant: there are 100,000 people with disability in Western Australia of working age who are not in employment. Nationally, young people aged 15–24 with disability are more than twice as likely to be unemployed (25%) than those in older cohorts.

Programs like Dare to Dream help close that gap by building skills, confidence, and real connections to workplaces while students are still at school. Good Sammy Chief Executive Officer, Kane Blackman, shared why this program matters so much,

We know the move from school to work, or training can be a big step. Dare to Dream gives students the chance to explore career pathways, try new experiences, and see what’s possible for their future.”

Our 2026 first semester scholars take part in weekly workplace visits and classroom training at Good Sammy’s Canning Vale head office, supported by parents, carers, school staff and industry mentors, building skills, confidence and a clearer sense of what’s possible beyond school.

Take a peek at the journey so far – it’s something special.

Our sincere thanks to Stan Perron Charitable Foundation for supporting this initiative.
